Terms of Service
Last updated June 19, 2026
These terms govern your use of The Backroom ("the Service"). By creating an account or connecting your store, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.
The service
The Backroom is a product-analytics and inventory-planning tool for product and retail businesses. It reads your Shopify store data to produce sales goals, an open-to-buy / buy plan, reorder recommendations, and dead-stock reports.
Your account
- You're responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for activity under your account.
- You must provide accurate information and be authorized to act for the business you connect.
Connecting your store
When you connect Shopify, you authorize The Backroom to access your store data (read-only, for the scopes shown at install). You can disconnect at any time by uninstalling the app in Shopify or removing the connection in Settings.
Recommendations are guidance, not advice
Goals, forecasts, buy quantities, and other outputs are estimates and recommendations based on your historical data. They are not financial, accounting, or investment advice, and we don't guarantee their accuracy or any business outcome. Purchasing and pricing decisions are yours.
Acceptable use
Don't misuse the Service — including attempting to access other businesses' data, disrupt the Service, or use it unlawfully.
Subscriptions, billing & trial
- The Backroom is offered as a paid subscription. Pricing and any free-trial details are shown at signup and on the billing page when you subscribe.
- Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period. You can cancel anytime from Settings — your access continues through the end of the period you've paid for.
- Fees are charged in the currency shown at checkout, plus applicable taxes. Payment is processed by Stripe; we do not store your card details.
- If a payment fails, we'll retry per Stripe's default schedule and may suspend access if the payment remains unresolved.
- We don't offer refunds for partial billing periods. If you believe you've been charged in error, email megan@thelocalspace.ca.
Your data
Your Shopify store data and anything you enter into The Backroom belongs to you. We use it only to provide the service to you, as described in our Privacy Policy. You can export key data (purchase orders, markdown logs, consignment payouts, etc.) from the relevant pages at any time. If you cancel, we retain your data for 30 days so you can reactivate without losing anything, then delete it on request or within 90 days, whichever comes first.
Third-party services
The Backroom integrates with third-party services — most importantly Shopify (sales, products, inventory), Stripe (billing), and Resend (transactional email). Your use of those services is also governed by their own terms. We aren't responsible for changes those providers make to their own systems, but we'll let you know if a change affects what The Backroom can do for you.
Availability & warranty
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind. We work to keep it reliable but don't guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, The Backroom is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for lost profits or inventory decisions, arising from your use of the Service.
Termination
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate access for violation of these terms.
Changes
We may update these terms; we'll revise the "last updated" date and, for material changes, notify you where appropriate. Continued use means you accept the updated terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia, Canada.
